They rocked on Keith Richards, gave Roger Daltry even more mojo, and made Marianne Faithfull serenely sexy. Australian designer, Jenny Kee, is celebrating her famous friends with a new story – the rebirth of the 60s scarf. And Mr. Rose is thrilled to have her on board!

Jenny’s new collection muse is the bias style scarf made truly hip by the aristos and rockprincelings in the 1960s. “In the swinging 60s I was part of a dynamic scene that pioneered retro fashion,” Kee said. “In London, there was a romance with the scarf and we dressed every popstar, filmstar and fashionista in 30s bias scarves and crushed velvet pants – that was the uniform.”

Embracing her past with the works of art she painted in her Blue Mountains hideaway, Jenny has captured the vibrancy of the Australian landscape. Wildflowers, opals, beach and bush prints collaged into wearable art.

Each piece has been printed and made in Australia on 100% silk crepe de chine. Truly beautiful, we have a selection of Jenny’s pieces online at the Mr. Rose Paddington boutique. Come in and seeeee!

Am getting quite excited about unveiling the Mr Rose spring summer collection in a couple of weeks.…it feels like the beginning was so long ago! The inspiration for this collection comes from a lightening bolt of wonderment at the Murakami exhibition in Versailles – brilliance that made me want to jump out of my skin and dance, dance, dance. Placement always intrigues me, the stranger the better, so having the ornate, opulent historical Versailles as the backdrop to the ornate, opulent pop world of Takashi Murakami made my heart sing. Two modern worlds distanced by time working perfectly together through brilliance in design and vision. I had never been to the gardens of Versailles, so it was high-giddy-pleasure of meandering around the green, ice-cream in hand, soaking it all up. Taking some time to kick-back on one of the garden benches and watch the leaves fall, it’s a luxury that you often only get with travel. This collection is also connected to my friend Traudl who had passed away a month before I headed to Paris (a city that she loved and the country that created her favourite quencher). In a quirk of fate, she had given me a little Murakami brooch from an exhibition in Japan that she had gone to with Steve, and had raved solidly about it and the whole trip. This little smiling brooch I hang with her cowboy boot earrings in my Raffa’s room – it’s a happy remembrance of a femme who continues to inspire. Here are some references that I used to create the collection …..when it comes out in a couple of weeks (Sept 5th) see if you can put two and two together!

So I grabbed my glossy copy of Vogue today and was more excited to see it in the flesh. The edition is beautiful. It hits all my buttons from ruffle and Peter Pan collars, to costume drama dressing (love to play the French maid or the bellhop) androgynous style to an amazing shot of Janelle Monáe with Karl Lagerfeld and of course, the Belle Curve story featuring Robyn Lawley styled by Meg Gray and shot by Max Doyle. It’s a ten page feature and is the first time in Vogue’s 52 year career that features a plus-size model. It’s divine – and am so thrilled that our new season Mr Rose Scarf Blouse has been styled on Robyn! Sizing and fit has been at the top of our agenda since the birth of Mr Rose, we started in 2007 by creating a bust sizing system for our Classic and Tuxedo shirts and it’s a feature that continues to bring happy relief for many women – eradicate the world of the “pull and gape”! As we work toward creating more sizing options for our customers, it’s exciting to see a beautiful celebration of shape.

Robyn has been a busy and lauded lady of late - appearing on the covers Vogue Italia and French Elle. "The Now Shape" as pegged by Vogue Italia - is celebrating the voluptuous femme - yay to the Italians! Paris through the eyes of a dirty martini or two....hmmm - BRILLIANT!
Hotel Costes was to blame for this chicas undoing. A great night was followed by a fairly slow day of getting lost in the streets of Saint -Germain des Pres, a visit to the Musee D'Orsay and walking a million miles often in a circular direction - maps e moi are not friends. Hot tip which may be a bit random but if you want to find chic garb for bambinos and little people, then hit Monoprix - its like a cross between a supermarket and a target - the clothes are all typical French tonal colours in soft fabrics and serioulsy CUTE! Thanks to Emma, an Australian living in Pari, for that intel! Off to feed this overhang. Adieu!

A day of enchantment was had today...

Found stunning pieces for the boutique (not letting anything away)- they are BLISS (some in time for Christmas - wohoo!), a ladybug landed on me as the traffic stopped for hundreds of rollerbladers and skaters that swooooshed the streets, I accompanied the most divine Leslie Crawford of SBS to the Martin Grant show at the Chapelle Des Petits-Augustins - an insanely beautiful experience and while enroute to the show running through the Metro we came upon a mini orchestra playing tunes of dramatic scale. Finishing the evening at a bar with Leslie, her friend Charlotte and Paloma - who have just opened a boutique in the Marais - she designs pieces using vintage fabrics from all over the world - I cannot wait to visit on Friday. Just so lovely! Hmmm bliss.

Exhilaration & Hyperventilation in Paris

Am in an hourly cycle of exhilaration, hyperventilation and then flickers of desperation as there is so much to see, so many eye widening moments and how zee ell am I going to cover it all. AHHH - its sooo gooood! Running around like a mad woman from Premiere Classe to Tranoi to Zip Zone Lourve - in love with amazing fringed leather bags, the lightest cashmere printed scarves, woven hats in incredible shapes, leather headbands - and found this amazing Italian fashion label who has developed a weaving technique that creates fabric from silk to silk cotton to cotton - all in the one pair of pantaloons - unbelievable! So many talented people - all showing their wares - brilliant.

Anyone who can create and make accessible that masterful Burnt Fig, Caramel & Honeycomb Ice-cream, is a complete gift. YUM – weekly devouring essential. So we were seriously chuffed that Maggie donned the Mr. Rose Artisan for the final (no less!) of Master Chef – can life get any better??? Hmmm, I think not – although sitting down with a couple of friends, bottle of Old Vine Shiraz and a platter of Pheasant Farm Pate with little tiny cornichons does conjure very happy thoughts….Thank you Maggie!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh we do love a photo shoot - the hair, makeup, new garb and the talent of excellent lighting and photography! Although its fricking freezing (for Sydney) we channeled our inner Bondi and got into Spring Summer mode for our SS10 Collection brochure – wohoo! Continuing from our last season “Driven by a Certain Style” we found fantabulous femmes to star in our campaign - nothing like seeing people in front of the camera – it’s a sink or swim scenario and am thrilled to say that all were serious swimmers. This week we are prepping for our Spring Summer 2010 photo shoot and we are thrilled to be working with the very talented fashion photographer, Julie Adams.

Julie recently returned to Australia after working in London and New York for the past 12 years. During this time living abroad Italy became a source of great inspiration and led Julie to produce her first exhibition, The Beauty of Italian Women, which she showed in Sydney earlier this year.

According to Julie, The Beauty of Italian Women is a body of work that happened by chance. It all started on a train from Milan to Florence. It was the first time she had asked a stranger if she could take their portrait. From this moment, she started an adventure. She was so overwhelmed with the warmth of Italian women – their enthusiasm, their sense of fun, their honesty and their pure love of life. We adore these images and we are sure you will too!

This week Mr. Rose was in Sunday Life Magazine which featured one of our luxury leather Beauchamp Belts. These gorgeous and very clever belts were designed with a focus on versatility - many of the styles can be worn in two or three ways and can sit both on the waist and hip - making them the ideal wardrobe wonders. Designer Alex Fagan started her business two years ago, she sources her materials from Italy and has them made by craftsman in the UK. Winning the Liberty Best of British Open Call in 2009 saw her being stocked in the iconic department store Liberty of London. Mr. Rose is very excited to be the only stockist in Australia! Mr. Rose was introduced to these by our neighbour Nadine of the Wagner Art Gallery. We imported them directly from the weavers– all done by hand in the traditional method, if you look at the close-up shot, you can see the tiny cone like pattern – such fine, fine detail that gives real depth of colour. We dressed Madeleine in a selection of them – perfect for a crisp winters day and night!

In the relative safety of the store – our lovely ladies sipped on divine Prosecco; snacked on Miss Chu’s finest and indulged in the art of dressing up! The theme for the night was The Great White Shirt and we officially launched The Mr. Rose Easy Rider Shirt, meticulously designed for the perfect fit. The makings of a print!

Fabric is key for Mr. Rose – there is nothing like the rush of spotting a gorgeous print or texture – the hand immediately juts out to confirm its beauty under paw. This season we teamed up with Karie from ella and sofia www.ellaandsofia.com to create a couple of prints exclusively for us. The inspiration was 1940s mens ties (and the idea of the traditional English hunting sock…..!) so we played with paisley, stripes and checks, wanting to create texture that popped! Working with a palette of rusty and deep reds, with a touch of gold, plus the charcoals and pop pink - vavavavoom we came up with two beautiful designs that we had digitally printed on silks for our airy Aviator and chic Blousons. The following pics show the progression of the Paisley print from sketch to finished style!

Our AW campaign: Driven by a certain style

We’ve had such a great response to seeing nine fabulous women donning our new collection – and I have to say it was one of the most stress-free shoots! Each of the gorgeous chicas took valuable time out of their working day, ready to give something quite new (and possibly uncomfortable) a go – very happy to be make-up’d, hair’d, styled, dressed and then thrown in front of the bright lights, camera and crew– and they all performed incredibly! For me, Mr. Rose is the woman in the clothes, I love hearing the stories of what women are up to, it always inspires me – so it was a great thrill to have such amazing women represent this new collection.
